this system interfaces MAX30100: pulse oximetry and heart rate monitor module with an Atmel Microcontroller to make a project for measuring BPM using the max30100 with an LCD to display results
BPM are the “beats per minute” and they are around 65-75 while resting for a normal person, athletics may have lower than that, and the SpO2 is the Oxygen saturation level, and for a normal person it’s above 95%.
The MAX30100 can be found in different modules, I have a WAVGAT version, and available is the MAX30102 for acheiving same result
MAX30100 or MAX30102 sensor is used to detect blood oxygen and heart rate. First, infrared radiation is sent and reflected by hitting the finger, and then the amount of oxygen in the blood is determined by measuring the wave amplitude.
Heart rate is also obtained by analyzing the time series response of this radiation.
The MAX30100 or MAX30102 is an integrated module compatible with the any microcontroller like the PIC, Atmel, Arduino and STM32.
It integrates a red LED with an infrared LED, a photoelectric detector, an optical device, and a low noise electronic circuit for ambient light suppression.
Heart rate and blood oxygen data are also transmitted to the microcontrollers via I2C communication.
